Moby Dick Farm This friendly, year-round equestrian center offers instruction and the opportunity to clip-clop through the miles of trails in the wooded Punkhorn Parklands. The staff is specially trained to handle beginners, and the horses here are the reliable, steady types. For seasonal fun, ask about hayrides, sleigh rides, and carriage rides. Trail rides cost $40 and last well over an hour, sometimes closer to two. We highly recommend them. You'll learn a lot about the natural history of the area, and come back to the stable as refreshed and invigorated as only a good trail ride can leave you. Woodsong Farm Right next to Nickerson State Park, this facility offers riding lessons ($35 for a half-hour) and boarding and boasts a lovely network of trails. Unfortunately, the trails are only for use by those who board horses here. Woodsong Farm also hosts horse shows--terrific ones, we might add, that are great fun on a summer day. It also offers summer programs for kids (see our Kidstuff chapter). Nickerson State Park The park has one marked bridle trail and a network of other trails. There is no fee to ride. Punkhorn Parklands This maze of scenic trails lends itself perfectly to horseback riding, and there's no charge to ride here. Many of the trails are ancient cart paths still wide enough to ride two abreast, so you can chat with your riding buddies. On the narrower trails, though, watch out for uneven terrain. Bayberry Hollow Farm Know a child celebrating a birthday on the Cape? Here's the perfect present--pony rides! Bayberry Hollow offers kid-friendly rides on kid-friendly ponies, either on their land or yours, for all occasions. The farm also offers riding lessons for $40 per hour for a private lesson and $30 for a group of three. It's open year-round; appointments are a must.
